stress relief

Stress is common in current times as we all have too many things to take care of. We cannot completely avoid stress but we can handle it better and come out of it quickly. So, how to do it? There are various ways of handling stress. One of these ways is pranayam. Pranayam is an exercise for our breath.

Our breath and emotions are closely related. When we are stressed or angry, our breath becomes shallow and rapid. When we make our breath deep and long, our emotions calm down. Pranayama is a technique that works on our breath and helps us to calm down our emotions.

There are many types of pranayama techniques. One of them is Anulom Vilom. To know more about this, watch the below video.

Video Transcript:

There is a huge connection between our breath and thoughts, emotions. So, let’s practice a very simple, easy breathing technique. This technique beautifully balances our breath and respiratory system. Its called alternate breathing or anulom vilom. So, shall we start?

We can sit on the floor in sukhasan or cross-legged posture. You can sit on a chair if it is difficult to sit on the floor. But make sure your spine is straight.

Any breathing exercise, first start with exhalation. So, let’s just exhale all the air from our lungs. And then, with your right thumb, close your right nostril and inhale from your left nostril. Then close your left nostril with your middle finger and exhale from your right nostril. After that, when you are closing your left nostril, inhale from your right nostril. Then close it with the right thumb. Exhale through your left nostril.

So, alternately, you close, exhale, and then close, inhale. I will give the instructions in the post also so that you can follow, and these instructions are given by Om Swami. He has beautifully explained the whole technique, and he is an enlightened master. So, we cant get this information from a better person.

Advanced yogis or advanced students can hold their breath like inhale, hold, and exhale. But for that, you need to go for a class, or you should be an advanced student. So, if you are just starting off, let’s just do simple anulom vilom.

This is a very, very simple, easy, effective technique to balance breathing and to remove respiratory problems. It will also calm our thoughts, and our whole body will become stronger.

Every day, you can do it for 20 repetitions, preferably on an empty stomach. Don’t do it immediately after having food. Maintain a gap of at least 1 or 2 hours. It’s best to practice this before meals. You can do 2 to 3 times.

So, shall we practice every day? Let’s utilize our time nicely. Bye!
